1. I think I'm allergic to sleep, or have developed a psychotic aversion to it, manifesting in hives. I break out in hives in my feet, wrists and inner or back of the thighs only right before I am due to go to bed. No, sometimes I'm not even changed into my jim-jams, sometimes I'm in the shower, sometimes I'm just sitting at my desk and THINKING ( Read more... )

May I suggest that you seek out a very good practitioner of Eastern Medicine to address your hives? I was trained in massage in both Eastern and Western modalities, and you'd be surprised at how out-of-the-European-box Chinese treatments are. For example, the timing of your hives can relate to the time of day related to the organ system at its peak or at its weakest at that time. So a practitioner might treat any deficiency or excess found in the related channels. It's fascinating, straightforward stuff. I went into it eyebrow cocked, mind open, and I am convinced. I've felt it work for me, maybe you can benefit, too. It's always the most mysterious, weird ailments that seem to benefit from Eastern Medicine, lol.

I got hit by stress induced hives this past year pretty hard for about a week or so - lack of sleep, long work hours, etc. Started at the wrists and ankles and spread up the extremities. Use some antihistamine gel lotion and that helped some, but what I ultimately had to do was take some time and force myself *not* to think about work and veg out in front of the TV or just sit in the quiet. It was weird - it would ease up a bit, but the moment I'd think about checking my work email (which was a pretty frequent thing), my hands and wrists would start getting hot, turn red and itch.

Pretty hard trying to relax when your arms and legs feel like they're on fire.
