Things You Should Be Reading

1. xf_is_love. Posting has started, and there's some great stuff up there. wendelah1 wrote a wonderful story about little Jeffery Spender, which happens to have an absolutely perfect last paragraph; bayloriffic wrote a lovely Rain King one-bed fic, which, as you may or may not know, is so my kink-of-the-moment. And maidenjedi has a solid and compelling Diana fic that is a The End ( Read more... )

Can I just say, I ship Scully/Samantha like burning? The AU version, where Fox is the abductee* and Samantha is the FBI agent? In which there is still epic UST and desk sex? I don't know if I'm going to get time to fill this, but someone really should. Really really.

Me too. Me too. I just wish more people would write it....

I may have reached my limit on things I can do For The Fandom, but I'm totally adding "produce Sam/Scully fic" to the list for later. ;)

I can't remember ruuger's fic except for HELL YEAH! and that is my professional review of the story, you should read it, the end.

I am on that femmeslashkinkmeme like fire and someone really needs to educate me about Scully/Samantha because I keep seeing it around and feeling to overcome by the amazingness.

There is painfully little of it out there! Which is a thing that must be changed! Naraht (aka emily_shore on LJ) wrote some of the most well-known pieces: Such Devoted Sisters and Dirty Water. I actually can't think of more than that off the top of my head. (Though now I want to find the Mulder/Clone!Samantha story I remember from my early days in fandom.)

ETA: There's another one. Something where Our Scully is skipping universes, and there's an Agent Sam that she keeps meeting, who is a little in love with her. Shit. I can't remember the title, or anything about it, though.

I saw that you linked to more prompts on philedom--I will go add them to the original post...

The third Sam/Scully piece you're talking about is by loneraven:

Lullaby for a Stormy Night

And it's fantastic. It was very interesting to see the differences between her conception and mine, given that we were writing our pieces pretty much at the same time.

There's one other Sam/Scully that I know of:

Finish that Drink (see the 2nd part)

I also have Sam AU bookmarks, some of which are a bit more general.

why yes, heaps more of that please. it's like the cracked pairing that actually isn't cracked. it's perfect - it ducks right under all of my suspension-of-disbelief hangups like they were pesky crime tape.

oh, FYI, emily_shore? you basically own this genre for me. you write two little fics with no smut whatever, and it's like *poof* -- Femslash, sprung fully formed from the head of Emily Shore.

Amal, you could probably rock this premise too, though maybe in a pornier fashion? though i prefer to think of a sans 'alien sex probe(s)' fic, myself. why guild the lily, you know? or or introduce probes to an already improbable premise, as the case may be. *smirk*

Oh, there's no way I would be writing it without Going There. Because, really. (Though--and I am terribly shallow--this would work a lot better if they'd cast a hotter actor as Samantha.)

And you're right--it works, because Mulder/Scully only work *conditionally,* provided that they get together because of the work. (Which is why AUs where they meet in "normal contexts" don't make any sense to me, but anyway.) So it makes perfect sense for Scully and Sam to develop the same bond that Scully and Fox do--really, the Mulder's interchangeable.

And then I want to cry for saying that, because, Mulder. And yet, structurally, it's true.

*uses Mulder icon to make herself feel better.

Awww, you're too kind. I think that loneraven (see link above) is at the very least a co-owner. And neither of us can write smut!

I was trying the other day to polish up one of my half-finished fics set in the same universe but it's actually Sam/Melissa Scully (set during the S2 abduction arc). I don't know if that counts?

ahahaha! this. THIS. though it could have been worse. she could have been cast as someone pretty but boring. that would have been unforgivable.

And then I want to cry for saying that, because, Mulder. And yet, structurally, it's true.

i know exactly what you mean. that's something i love about Dirty Water and Such Devoted Sisters - that there's this subtle but deep-seated conflict between Sam being Mulder, and Sam being Other Than Mulder, and the two universes never quite being able to reconcile. it's kind of uncomfortable, transfixing.

I don't know if that counts?

i don't think it's the same. but it still counts. and is marvelously quirky.

inevitably leads to thoughts of how Scully's going to eventually have to have sex with her girlfriend's brother's clone.

You know you have to write that now. Seriously.

Also, thanks for the rec and feedback - the story sat with just one paragraph written for almost a year, until I had the xf_is_love assignment and deadline. Thank the heavens, it is finally off my conscience. :-)

Not gonna lie--I spent about half an hour last night working something out. Whether it'll ever see paper is another issue...

Challenges do have a handy way of making things get finished, don't they? *g*
