There's just one thing bugging me a bit... Are you sure that 許してやれ means "forgive me", not "forgive him"? If it was "forgive me", maybe it would be rather 許してくれ?..
Also, judging by the blog post date, I assume that old friend is Kami, and as I understood from G's recent interviews, it's more like he regrets that he hadn't apologized to Kami rather than other way round, so...
Well, it's hard to describe and I'm not sure either, I just felt like it's Kami asking G to forgive YOU here. Maybe I'm wrong here, I don't know.
