016 ... a man sees in the world what he carries in his heart

You know, since we're all doin' some good old-fashioned bonding, I think it's high time I asked somethin' for everyone to hear.

See, when I was alive, I was in somethin' of a wish-granting business. Not that I was a decent man about it, mind. Most of y'all know that by now, and really, deep down so did they. I'd draw a man's feelings out an' ( Read more... )

And we're left to wait and wonder if he's above his own miniature disasters.

Oh, I don't expect an answer, but at least they'll all hear it.

You're back. ...way things are around here, I wasn't sure.

I am. I wasn't even aware that I'd vanished.

I've had a bit of that myself lately - not the vanishing, but time sort of slippin' away from me, at least.

Barge was less classy for lack of your company.

This isn't going to make you feel better, Etienne.

Didn't expect it to. But he's a son of a bitch and everyone ought to hear it.

I can't say I really agree with you, but you have a right to your feelings, right?

Thanks. Should hope I do.

How do you see it, then? More of this 'tear someone down to build 'em back up' business?

Go on, he's affected, but he's sort of emo about the truth, so be warned. rass_bestie August 14 2010, 18:03:48 UTC
I'd imagine that whoever else's immune, he most certainly is.

You make an excellent point. Although not everyone responded to my post, those that did, made the deal while they were, perhaps, not in the best position to make proper decisions.

Whether they would have made the deal anyway, they seemed to believe so, but the fact that that opportunity was not presented to them then, well, it speaks more than words.

Not to mention the half of us who had no choice. Whole business is just...

It's sick. Not even 'cause he does it, but - I've called what I did justice. I ain't never called it good.

You warden or inmate?

That is how many become evil, it is good, therefore it is excusable.

Inmate.

Or it's good for some, so the rest are invisible.

What're you in for?

I honestly don't have the answer for you.

Even a benevolent dictatorship is still one, and I have had cause to question that description.

I have learned to try to accept what I can change or at least focus on what I can.

I don't know if I have helped at all, but I want to.

amagicalmystery August 14 2010, 18:30:58 UTC
And what can you change? 'Cause I've heard that advice before, more or less. It's hard coming.

bob_fraser_snr August 14 2010, 18:38:03 UTC
Well, hence the word 'try'. It's still difficult to accept that I am restricted, that I cannot come and go as I chose, that I am confined to this ship.

I can change people's, wardens and inmates, attitudes. Simply because they are on the 'right' side, doesn't mean they are superior to us or have better morals, even though we might have failed at upholding them.

And simply because the inmates are on the 'wrong' side, doesn't make them inferior or damaged, in that way.

So we can keep preachin' to stop ourselves from raging against the man doin' the driving, sounds like.

Well, I suppose it's something.

...Much obliged.

You did want to talk, didn't you? Wouldn't be opposed to it now, even under the circumstances.

I did; actually, I was going to suggest that we wait until the waters have passed. Honesty is a thing that should be shared willingly, or earned fairly, not compelled in this way.

But if you would like to talk nevertheless then I will be happy to meet with you.

Heh, you know, I suspect I'd mainly tell you the truth anyhow. Just...guard it some.

Yeah, best we hang on 'til it wouldn't mean dancin' around each other.
