This one could've been a whole lot worse. Good thing I'm not stupid enough to let everything out once we're chums. (You're still a pompous waste of skin, Crane, you've just got the added excuse of bein' out of your mind ( Read more... )

[Voice] - because someone has to see a technicality in life lessons wrapped up in stories... doeswhatido May 31 2010, 23:59:34 UTC
There's plenty of snakes with bright colours that aren't poisonous. That's not a surefire sign or anything.

If a snake talked to a person, wouldn't it make sense they were on some sort of drug? And if said person picked up a snake while on said drug, wouldn't said snake bite them right away as snakes are more afraid of us as we are of them? And said person having been bit and yet on a drug at the same time...would they not hallucinate that scene as they lay dying?

[[Pause.]]

...I think Crane has rubbed off on me.

The snake is like a woman, who will strike when you aren't looking.

Or the snake is like a snake.

LOL. Wonderful! heavenonthemind June 1 2010, 00:19:19 UTC
Not all snakes are poisonous. This snake is like a woman.

I would have said it is more like a Jew, but then I am not an expert on animals, am I?

Hmm.

What do you think?

Oh, a few things. Mainly that folks are ugly enough when they don't know it that I don't see the sense in you makin' projects of the ones who do.

...of course, everyone seems to have turned "snake" into "group the listener hates most", I'm gonna confess I didn't expect that.

grand_lotus June 1 2010, 00:43:05 UTC
But would that not be what the snake represents, in this story? Something that the listener considers evil by its very nature?

Granted. But I'd have thought the whole "charity" thing would have made my point obvious.

Thought you would. I'm thinkin' you treat your snakes with respect.

To do anything else with a snake would simply be asking for an... unfortunate accident.

It's all well and good to show kindness, even to an enemy, but being nice is no excuse for stupidity.

You help if you can but you still take precautions.

And for argument's sake, say you take every precaution. They aren't all foolproof.

I wouldn't want to live in a foolproof world. There's no spice in life without a little risk, after all.

You've got yourself a point.

Though there's plenty of adventure out there without adopting foundlings with fangs.
