While I'm still in the final stages (hopefully) of my cold, I was feeling well enough this weekend to begin the reorganization project to make room in our home for our baby

Well, it's simply a matter of dealing with the space we've got. I know there are a number of families on our street who do it, so it's got to be possible!
That was a lot of progress. Our cats don't like seeing us doing major cleaning either. I didn't even have my own room till I was I think nine. I am sure you guys will have a room for your son in no time. You do what you have to do with the space you have.
That's the plan, with adjustments made as necessary. The reorganization was way overdue anyway.
The bigger adjustment for the pets will be having a new human in the house, but from the way they're both acting very protective towards me, I think they already sense something is up.
I'm not surprised abut your animals reacting to your being pregnent. We have had pregnent people visit our house and every time especially our one cat has reacted. It is Tiger, he gets all lovely dovely with woman and wants to make sure they are ok. They will most likely be very good about the new little one when he comes home.
Lovey-dovey is exactly the way to describe it. My cat loves to sit against my big belly and purr, and my dog is always near me, giving me adoring and/or concerned looks.
This sort of thing is what the nesting instinct is really good for. I tend to notice it in retrospect ("Oh yes, waking up at four in the morning and choosing to iron does mean I'm nesting. Duh!") but the drive to sort certain things out are definitely there.
We keep the baby in our room for the first few months, in bed with us to begin with and then in a bassinet by the bed. I sleep a lot better that way. It was fine when we just had one to go to him because I could sleep during the day with him but now that's not an option, we have to make sure I get as much sleep as possible. We may well move before the time comes to shift him into another room. His is all set up (although poor lamb will be living with girly purple for a very long time) but we'll need to sort out bunks/replacement bed for the girls as they all shift rooms again. We're moving the youngest in with the next one up. Hopefully they'll be fine about sharing because it's tough if not!
