15 seconds of fame

Somehow it doesn't feel like much, but it's still sort of giggly like having had too much champagne. I became an official "author" today, according to Amazon.

Here it is, complete with photo.Yes, that's the real me hiding behind the bearded collie (whose name was Sarge, and he was father to my Simon.) Obviously, it's a few years old as the only ( Read more... )

LOL. Right, celebrity. One interesting thing comes of it though. I hadn't paid any attention to the Amazon page for that book. There's a single reader review, and he lists my story as one of the "outstanding" ones.

Nice one! That's good going. I wish you luck if you chose to publish works there.

Thanks. I'm actually still trying not to think of publishing anything myself. Not because I don't believe it's legit, but because so many others don't think it is. That one book with one story in it is likely to be all there is on Amazon for the foreseeable future. I've linked the page to my Dreamwidth blog, though, so soon all my furry laundry will be on Amazon. ;p

What's a horse without a mane? We look really silly when they're cut.

Nice. I've always had that little thing about wanting to know the real faces and names of my online contacts...

Well, that's my real face at least. Still the furry pseudonym. I did non-furry erotica years ago under the pseudonym "Garth Lee." My real name is no secret: Gary Lee Phillips. Hunt hard enough and you'll find non-fiction under that one. (But no, I'm not the one who writes zoological treatises on fish, nor the one who wrote technical books about the Macintosh. Definitely not the Macintosh.)

Thanks. I was taken aback by the request and had to scramble for a photo. They said "no pets, no groups, no artwork." I have no photos of me from recent years without pets, but they took it anyway.

I should have looked at Kyell's page. He has a typical furry badge type picture, not a photo. Of course, his stuff sells a lot more, so maybe he got some slack for that. Since the Amazon page will now echo my Dreamwidth blog, I need to decide whether to keep double posting Dreamwidth and LJ or treat Dreamwidth as strictly an "author" blog. ;p Ursula Vernon gets away with blogging her private life, though, in spite of the fact that she writes children's books as well as adult, so maybe no need to worry.

Honestly, I was one of the first to do the author pages, and I don't think they had that restriction when I did it. Maybe I'm the reason they put it in. :D (And please! That pic is too pretty to be a "typical" furry badge. ;)

FWIW, my LJ blog posts to my author page and I don't really worry about it. The way the culture is going these days, people are looking for individual connections, and I rarely put anything on the LJ that I wouldn't want up on Amazon anyway.

Welcome to authorship!

Thanks. That's particularly nice coming from someone I respect as much as I do you.

By "typical" I meant the layout and presentation. Though, really, I've seen a lot of badges that have really nice artwork on them, and those are the ones that stick in my mind when I think of con badges. You have several nice images you've been using.

Oh, and thanks to you and Hirosaki-san for the podcasts. Even though I'm not writing erotica these days, I have enjoyed listening.
