So Gary's little brother had bypass surgery on Monday and seems to be recovering as nicely as they can expect. They plan to send him home by the weekend now. That's good

Yeah, I know. I've been watching it in the in-laws for years now. Fortunately I don't wind up so easily or so tightly. Everything appears to be cooling down now, thanks.
Yup. Nitroglycerin(e) is a powerful explosive and the basis of dynamite. It is also a powerful heart stimulant. (Rather akin to starting a car in cold weather by squirting ether into the carburetor, I guess. Kaboom.) Anyway, things are back under control now, looks like.
Yes, the conclusion now is that he was not having heart problems at all. It was stress and anxiety, complicated by exhaustion and perhaps an incipient ulcer from too much coffee. It sounds like they are going to put him on a stomach medication and tell him to cut the coffee (which I've been saying for years.)

Yeah, my hope that 2008 would be an improvement isn't going very well just yet. However, all seems to be recovering at the moment. I expect a call any minute now to go pick him up and bring him home.
Yeah, and his whole family are abnormally jumpy to begin with. The diagnosis this morning is stress plus incipient ulcer from too much coffee. I'm going to have to clamp down harder on his coffee consumption, now that the doctor has backed me up on it. ;p
*nods* Coffee is a bit sneaky, if there's even a bit of stress on top of that it can make one feel pretty awful. I've had to remind myself a couple of times that I've been inadvertently overdosing myself, and that that's the most probable cause for any odd feelings. And I'm glad to hear it's nothing more serious. ^^
A cup in the morning is OK. We make nine cups in the morning, of which I drink one and go off to work. On a typical day, by lunch time he has made a second pot, which he finishes about the time I get home.
He will also have coffee if he goes out anywhere to eat, or passes a coffee shop, or whatever. Giving him decaffeinated doesn't help, he just drinks more.
