Got up, fed critters, had breakfast, went out to unload the hay that was delivered late yesterday only to find that one tire on the hay rack had gone flat overnight. OK, obviously there is 4.5 tons of hay on this thing, we aren't jacking it up that way nor are we even trying to reinflate the tire with our tiny compressor. So we unload the hay and ( Read more... )

That guy stacks it much higher than Farmer Bob. Of course we know we have dry-rotted tires.
Yes, only gravity keeps the body on.

Jeff has a varied collection of racks. This one is the largest, and is an H&S body transplanted onto John Deere undercarriage. The flooring was recently replaced and is solid (nice, some of the others used to be so bad I actually fell through the floor once.) The tires are good, but I suspect the wheels are suffering from rust and that's the cause of the valvestem blowout ( ... )

We're getting the hang of adjusting the baler, too. Our bales are heavier now, than they first were.
Our hay wagons are a bunch of real wrecks. But, we have a lot of them.
Quantity, not quality.

As far as my experience in the last decade goes, hay wagons are just supposed to be wrecks. I know H&S still makes new ones up in Wisconsin, but I've never seen one that wasn't rusty, with hinges wired together or outer walls repaired with baling wire (which isn't used for baling any more, thank goodness.) The flooring always seems to be made of recycled planks from front porches that were already rotten, and the undercarriage usually has more rust than a VW bug that has survived 30 winters in Minnesota.

I don't think you'll find any mice yet. This is freshly baled so the only occupants would be any that were accidentally squished in the baler like those two bunnies we found back in June. Eew.
