Mom Update

My mom is still in the ICU at Akron City but according to the nurses she is doing better and they are slowly weaning her off the ventilator. They just told me that she was off the vent for about 1.5 hours today and that each day they are trying for slightly longer

You are not "the world's worst person" --because you are not in Ohio. You are a very decent person who loves her mother and is worried about her. You cannot change the situation she is in so you feel guilty. (2-thousand years of Jewish breeding help that along).
Instead, focus on her recovery and the fact that she will likely be in a much better position to enjoy your visit later this month.
