Venous Insufficiency or Stasis Dermatitis -- patches can be red or purple. It's fairly common after an injury. I had acute phlebitis years ago caused by deep vein thrombosis. I've worn compression hose for years. They're expensive, but they help quite a bit with discomfort in my legs.

The support is firmer around the ankle and gets lighter up toward the knee. You don't need to have a significantly swollen leg like in the picture you posted for these socks to be of value.

I could have told you about DVT. When I go into the butcher shop for the cellulitis, they insist on a sonigram to check for clots.

DVT is serious shit. One can throw a clot into the lung or brain and never know it until too late.

Be well.

I was on warfarin briefly, here in Australia they take it very very seriously.

Due to circumstances beyond my belief I'd ended up bruised pretty much through 50% of my body quite deep and the warfarin was to reduce the chance of clots frying my brain, heart or lungs.
