yeah, the other day marianne was complaining that we don't learn much about blacks in US History or AP Euro, and all we ever learned about was white people. The thing is, in US history at least, that's certainly not true. we learn about black people who make important contributions to our society. the thing is, it's called a minority group for a reason. as in, black people make up a MINORITY of the country. so therefore, you can't expect there to be as many important black people as there were important white people, just due to the fact that there are LESS of them. and honestly, probably about one third of the names we have to learn for history this year are not white people. which means, based on that, that a higher percentage of black people are history-book worthy than are white people

I might be wrong, but I like to believe there are no different "races", just different ethnics :) Last year, I learn in my biology class that there were not enough difference between, let's say someone who's white and someone who's black, to call it "two different races".

i always like the word ethnicity so much better.. it doesnt have as much stigma attached to it...when i think race...i think:racial profiling, race violence, race riots, racism, relay races.yep.

I honestly don't like the idea for having certain months for certain groups of people. I think its really hard to say (or at least a little hypocritical) "hey, race doesn't matter for anything (which is what I believe) but let's still make some people more special than others at various times of the year. As long as we keep separating people, racism is never going to end. I get that some people are very proud of their ancestry and everything, but I don't like the idea of the government getting involved with all of that.

yeah. 50 cent isn't all that great. and about race months..it's pretty bullshit because 1) it's arbitrary (just as arbitrary as making new year's resolutions..what the hell, you can make a resolution for a year any day.) 2) these types of things could theoretically alienate certain groups even more 3) there are people of all different races and ethnicities in america, and all the different cultures should be equally important and worthy of discussion any day, anytime. i wish we could just celebrate everyone else's differences, learn something and then go eat cake. sorry, i hope i didn't scare you away with the long comment. i'm just agreeing with you.

also. i watch Missy Elliot's Road to Stardom RELIGIOUSLY. and when she kicked off Akil who was by far the most talented (and cutest) i was so upset. she's also cocky as fuck.

yeah. i totally agree with on how ethnic appreciation months alienate other ethnic groups. i tried to explain it to one girl the other day and she totally disagreed with me which made me sad.

cake solves everything. if we only palestinians ands israelis could eat cake together.
