Over a year later, I'm still mad that I couldn't come down from Baltimore to see the Red Thread/Hey Girl show in DC, though I did get to see both bands this past summer! Hey Girl in SF was definitely in the top ten most fun shows I've been to this year, they played this rad space with the whole room dancing to both them and Connie Fuckin Francis (exactly what it sounds like, a tranny-fronted Connie Francis cover band) who opened.

I'm hoping to get Red Thread down here again at some point this fall/winter.

I think they were saying something about that.
I'm honestly not into the second demo as much, it has a different vibe and lacks the sense of cathartic fun and spontaneity that the first one had, but I'm still excited to see them again.

fuck yeah on the op ivy and green day. i'm into everything green day's done up to (and including) dookie.

that's awesome that you're doing a zine. i can't wait to read it. i understand if you want to save your words for your zine, but the offer to contribute to mine in any way still stands.

I actually think everything up through Nimrod is listenable, though Dookie and everything after doesn't have the same party potential. I've never heard "Warning," but I think "American Idiot" is a bogus attempt to be some sort of Queen/The Who/Bryan Adams/maybe even Don McLean-inspired epic statement, and NOFX beat them to the whole punk rock opera thing for better or worse.

I figured my "goodbye to DC" piece could go both in my zine and yours, and maybe one or two other things as well. I'm doing a DC scene report for mine that I wouldn't mind a collaborator on as well.

i agree about american idiot 100%. warning was some straight LOL material. i know some people who recently saw them live and they said it the guys from green day flying around on zipties over the orchestra. i'm glad i didn't go, as it would have ruined the image in my head of my favorite band (circa 12 years old).

i would actually prefer that you just use the piece for yours. i hate overlapping material in zines. i get so bummed when i find the same thing twice. it's just a pet peeve. but that dc scene report sounds interesting. i don't know of anyone even attempting to do that!

Hey, question, who are you?! I noticed you read my journal and we have things in common, and I like what you have to say, so I added you back. But I suppose questioning if this is someone I know or not isn't a terrible idea...

They Bay Area is great, I feel rather lucky to have grown up here. Are you moving to San Francisco, or somewhere else? One of my close friends is from Baltimore, I don't know if that is where you are in Maryland or not.

Yeah they are trying to clean up the area surrounding Warm Water Cove... in all the wrong ways. And yes, you are right about the shows there. When I went down there the day before the 'paint out' there were security guards patroling the little parking lot before the cove. I don't know if it is the end of shows there entirely, I sure hope not.

I'd settle for the East Bay, but I really want to try and live in SF proper. Even though it's more expensive, I feel like I'd have way more fun and save money in other ways, as the city seems more compact and minimum wage is higher. I work at a worker-owned food co-op now, and want to try and work at Rainbow Grocery or Other Avenues or something ( ... )

i was at a metal show maybe four or five months ago, and somebody put op ivy on the PA in between bands and everyone in the room started singing along. it was the weirdest/awesomest thing ever!

That is awesome.

Sorry I've been so flaky about calling, I've gotten more busy and it sucks, but you'll hear from me soon. Your mixtape is 3/4ths done.
