No rest for the weary. Right after Superman and Tony Stark were transported back to the eerily quiet Fortress, having escaped the wrath of a small robot battalion, they rushed to the console room, 10 minutes late and counting. Clark felt a pang in his chest at the loss of Jor-El's welcoming voice and image, but made no mention of it, instead pulling up a chair for Stark and fiddling with the console. Since all of the Fortress's technology was out of commission, this was done purely out of habit. Clark took a little comfort in the familiarity of it, but soon moved on to setting up his old laptop. Three minutes later, the telecon program was up on the screen. They were connected.

"Clark?"

Clark's eyes widened ever so slightly at the greeting. So we're back to that.

"Lex. Sorry we're late. I got held up trying not to give Mr Stark airsickness. How are things on your end?"

Lex glanced behind him. Kitty was laying on the couch, painting her nails. Caesar and Kitty's pomeranian were both staring at the nailpolish, curious expressions on their faces. Two-face was lurking over by the computer, most likely using several of his online aliases to alternately heap praise and scorn on Bruce on some of the more well-known celebrity message boards.

"Unspeakably dull," he answered, turning back to the computer. Now that Stark and Superman were here in front of him, he felt his semi-permanent bad mood return in full force.

"Where the hell were you two? It's not like Jarvis is that advanced. Escaping him should have been no trouble, considering the shoddy way Stark designs robots."

"Like I said," said Clark, weaving his fingers over his chest and tipping his chair back. "It was a long way from Malibu back to the Arctic, and in the interests of keeping the contents of Mr Stark's stomach where they should be, I took it slow. We're here, aren't we? Let's get things moving."

Tony pulled at the new and clean shirt Superman--uh, Clark, now--had leant him, moving towards the proffered chair as his savior made small talk with Lex. His stomach had calmed shortly after he'd been put down on solid ground, but he had to work at quelling the slight animosity he felt towards Clark for putting him through both the air acrobatics and nasty temperature change, even if Clark had tried his best to keep the nausea to a minimum. He'd never felt so glad for his suit before. Which was ironic, since it was that damn suit that had cornered him in the first place ( ... )
