Ya know, the only time I've ever seen a piece where you can't see at least a little of the gesso have been pieces gilded with modern sizing. So take heart. The occasional tiny bare flake is period. ;-)

Gorgeous, as usual. Which is why I save you for that kind of piece.

Why thank you! I am flattered.

However, I do use modern sizing - I use a PVA glue with red ochre gouache.

Yes, but you're not using permachol - which is the only substance I know of that will bond that perfectly. And only if you know how to use it.

No, we have a local event that I will be going to instead. I wavered for a while, but the local event has fencing. Which is a bummer, because in every year past, it has been weather that has kept me from Cynnabar's 12th Night. This year the weather will be fine, but I don't have the money or gumption to drive that far for a day trip when there is a local event that I can have as much fun at instead.
