If it's any comfort, receiving a Rowan is always a bit *what???* (I had to ask somebody what it meant, which was at the time rather embarrassing.) But you are DEFINITELY the real deal in that area. The OR isn't for being mealy-mouthed or speaking forsoothly. It's for playing nicely, in a way which inspires others, and dealing courteously to all. And yes you do.
You are very sweet, thank you. I knew what a Rowan was, but was thinking "what!? you can't mean that" followed by "no, you can't embarrass yourself by crying or something like that" :-) I must have looked quite shocked because Her Majesty kept on asking me whether I was ok :-)
I think (and this is just a guess) the point of awards is to be a surprise, because you hadn't noticed you were doing things that other people thought were cool.
Oh, and to make other people happy because they want to see you rewarded -- it was a very well deserved Rowan.
What about getting your mum something slightly medeival flavoured, but useable mundanely - eg a piece of jewelry that can be used as a decorative broach and doesn't have too tricky a clasp.
From your descriptions she seems to find the whole thing a little facinating, if in approachable doses, and as long as she isn't expected to join in (or maybe I'm reading too much into it).
Now if I could only get her to wear jewelry ... :-) I think she's in two minds about the whole thing - on the one hand she disapproves because it is not about "real life" and she thinks I spend too much time doing it. On the other hand, she supports me in doing it because she generally supports me in stuff I do, even if she disapproves of it. It's a bit of "I think you are crazy (and will tell you about it), but you are my daughter, so I'll help you". :-)
I know I congratulated you in FB but congrats again. Your comments just prove that the Rowan is most deserved. You are lovely, and helpful, and a pleasure to be around. ((hugs))
