I think that it is a requirement to try second person at least once in one's writing career. As for present tense ... well, I am a frequent abuser of that. ;)

If you need another set of eyes on it, you know where to find me. I'm happy to help. :) I know nothing about the northmen, but you're a good writer, so inherent devotion to the topic at hand is not required! :^D
