The little AU: Winter Hopes: Quiet

It's quiet tonight, the roar from the traffic muted- perhaps fewer people are out, he doesn't know, all he knows it it's quieter tonight, easier to think.

Sorting out his pictures from Nepal: looking at the people, the places, the animals, the objects. Remembering the light, so high up into the atmosphere, and how different it was to the light of Antarctica; and the air, the different densities of the air, the way it felt as he moved through it or it brushed over him, or blew.

After a while he stands and stretches and wanders into the kitchen to make tea, and finds Karl looking over a letter from Nat and being, also, very quiet.

Orlando knows it's not the same for him- an ex-girlfriend is not the same as an ex-girlfriend or ex-wife who is also the other parent of one's child- so he doesn't offer false commiseration or advice. Instead he just puts his hands on Karl's shoulders, letting them rest there strong and warm, until Karl looks up and smiles at him.

They kiss, then, a brief Hello you kiss wrapped in smiles, then Orli makes his tea, offers some to Karl, and walks around the house stretching, thinking.

In the bedroom Viggo sleeps on, waking briefly for small meals, for short walks, frustrated but knowing he's spent a lot of energy on some very big things the last two weeks, and he needs to take this time, rest up, recharge, or pay later- during filming- and he's not willing to do that.

Soon they'll join him in the big bed, careful not to disturb him, willing to hold him if he needs it, or leave him a bit of room to arrange his less-padded bones so he can rest, but there, always, to warm him.
