He knows now it's a step-by-step thing. If he wants to get there he's got to go slowly, steadily, not [literally] fly off the handle no matter how good the cause, but be methodical, reasoned, careful.
Not because he cares less, but because every thing he has to put into it is being pared down to the essentials of who he is, and what matters most.
And he can live with that. That's the point, isn't it? He nods to himself, goes in from the deck leaving the stars to fill the skies, and into his men, and love, and life.
