He's feeling so much better these days than he had six months ago. Sunny days are sunny, and special days mean something.
He could so easily spend a lot of money on something for Karl's birthday and have it couriered to the hotel where Karl is staying while he's in Aoteroa visiting Hunter, but that'd be cheap in the truest sense of the word, and no fun at all.
Instead, he dials that number on his cellie, and when Karl answers, starts to sing.
"Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday, dear Ka-a-a-a-ar-r-r-r-rl,
Happy Birthday to you."
Which results in the two of them cracking up, laughter bouncing off the satellites in both directions, until it subsides on its own and they fall into an hour or so of quiet conversation and lovemaking, until the timezones demand they part.
"See you soon, love, right?" Orlando says.
"In London, yeah," Karl replies. "And every night in my dreams, yeah?"
"Yeah, of course," Orli says, grinning. "Wouldn't miss those for the world."
They hang up. The world turns. And Karl's 35th year starts quietly, happily, full of love and friendship and care.
