I haven't been good to donate platelets all year (5770, that is). I'm hoping that things improve for me sooner or later. Now, if tattoos are out, how are they on spinal punctures?

In the past, they have offered a single-needle machine, which leaves one arm free. It's a different design on the needle - it picks up blood upstream (coming from the capillaries) and deposits the pheresed blood downstream, from the tip of the needle. I don't know if they still offer it - it's a different style of machine than the ones they offer in Columbia, as far as I know.
That's what they want me to try next time. I figured I'd let them have a stab at it, so to speak. My pure and powerful platelets belong to the world; what can I do?

I don't recall spinal punctures being on the deferral list; it probably depends upon what medications you took to treat the infection and pain. Did you have your spinal cord tattooed while they were in there?
