...Here's what I think. Both Personae and Shadows are mentioned in Jung's theory, and they're more or less the same thing except that a persona is the outer mask whereas the shadow is within a person's self. If I'm not wrong, those sealing Shadows are just making use of a weakness of ours then, but who knows what it is?
