J'ai le bonheur, grâce à ce biais, grâce à ce biais: I'll assume you want to be spoiled if you click any of the following links. According to one blogger, Alan Sepinwall's
interview with David Simon possibly boils down to one thought:
you are so stupid that I have to tell you why. There were of course a boatload of testy comments from New Yorkers reacting to his nine eleven/Katrina comparisons (which were actually comparisons of the relative self-absorption of both populations observed by outsiders after their respective civic tragedies), perhaps proving his point. One commenter does all the heavy delusional lifting for all the others: The fact that 9/11 made more of a national impact than Katrina seems a matter of public record. This most likely speaks more to the self-absorption of the average American, or of the human race in general, as it points to how people are most likely to be moved by that which may one day affect themselves rather than that which has already affected others.
This here's an example of the specific blindspot I think the show uncovers: that failures of government on domestic matters deserve at least as much outrage and action as those on an international stage. Your government can terrorize you too, and by a thousand tiny cuts.
Also: check out all the background detail
offered up by this blog (see especially the stuff on Indians). Finally, this is my favorite blog entry on the finale (so far):

De lui croquer un bout de pied, un bout de pied: I have recently discovered that iTunes Genius is not, insofar as it has not been (cannot be?) programmed to move metonymically through genres in its music choices. Which is boring. Here's what regular old Aléatoire has given me for the last hour or so:
Amtrak Crescent - Scott Miller & The Commonwealth
Ringo, I Love You - Stereo Total
Stop Your Sobbing - The Kinks
Come In Alone - My Bloody Valentine
Turn You Inside-Out - R.E.M.
Liberty For Our Friend (kira/thornton/watt) - fIREHOSE
Die Kathedrale Der Buecher (The Cathedral Of Books) - Various (Wings of Desire ST)
Let's Get Straight - Holy Shit
Ton of Bricks Mitch - Easter
Comme une soeur - Georges Brassens
Horn - Nick Drake
Trigger Cut / Wounded-Kite At :17 - Pavement
Lonely Girls - Lucinda Williams
Sleep All Summer (Crooked Fingers Cover) - St. Vincent And The National
Beyond the Sea (La Mer) - Django Reinhardt
Jack & Jill - Versus
I mishear the Holy Shit song every time: "that's not history!"

Jamais rien goûté d'aussi bon, rien d'aussi bon:
Cory Doctorow's podcast this week features a short story about "a business consultant living in revolutionary Paris during an anti-corporatist uprising, and what he does after he's conscripted into the Communard Army." Will report on findings.
