What channel is the Jon Hamm thingy coming on? I've seen previews and it looked interesting

Um. I um. Don't know? Because I'm not watching it on a channel? But look! Here it is for US viewers. Ovation. If I get it, I will set my DVR in solidarity.

I liked both the special and the Five-ish Doctors. There were so many in-jokes from the very oldest days, which I adored. And you know, I think you might be okay with Classic Who, but you shouldn't start with One; the pacing was a little slower then, which I'm guessing would not suit you. You might well enjoy giving Two, Three, or Four a try, though.

I totally agree that we never really see any motivation or background for Thor and Jane's supposed epic love. I've got no idea why they do more than briefly shack up to enjoy mutual hotness. I don't mind Natalie Portman, though; at least I buy her as a brilliant scientist, because of course she's at least pretty close. I'd be far less happy with someone I couldn't even buy as genius.

I once had a list of "recommended Classic Who eps" which skipped some of the most skippable. But I've lost it, woe.

Ok, brilliant scientist? That's part of why I think Nat Port is miscast - I totally don't buy her as a scientist! It's along the lines of the ludicrous nuclear physicist Christmas Jones (Denise Richards) in James Bond. Not that bad, obviously, but still a bit mind-boggling. I was also hung up on how they afford to live in London if none of them are working scientists, but that's just me being a nutter.

And don't get me wrong: I LOVE HER. I think she's stunning and brilliant. I should totally be happy with the fact that it could have been so much worse. SO MUCH. Oh Hollywood. So yeah, in fact, you are right.

Ok - talk to me about the Special, though -- what did you enjoy and what gave you pause, in either a good way or a bad (wolf) way?

She was, though. I read one of the papers she co-authored when she was at Harvard. I wouldn't say it was the most brilliant science I ever read, but it was fairly impressive. I guess that colors the way I see her.

About the special! Doctor Who is pretty much my sacred cow, so I don't really have pauses as such - more just effusive love. So, highlights. I shrieked when Tom Baker turned up, because he has never come back before, and everyone said he never would. I think it might have been good to explain his appearance more, but frankly I was too busy fangirling to care that much. I love that the War Doctor says, "This old body is wearing thin," as he regenerates into Nine (oh no - do we have to change all the numbering now?!), because that is what One said right before the very first regeneration. I love the grumbling about Ten and Eleven the War Doctor does; it's tradition in these multi-doctor episodes, and it's always fun. I'm glad Kate was ( ... )

I'm sorry I missed you last week! Next time, yeah? Glad you had a good Thanksgiving, though.

We saw the Who special in 3D in a movie theater, and it was so much fun. I didn't get a lot of the references, but I could've watched the doctors bickering all night. John Hurt was great. I haven't seen this 5 Doctors thing--where is it?

I am dying to see Kill Your Darling but it hasn't crossed the Mason-Dixon Line :( Perhaps it never will and I'll have to wait 'til it's out on video. Glad to hear it's good, though. I've seen one episode of the Daniel Radcliffe/Jon Hamm thing and I'd really like to see more when I have time!

Hope you feel better!

Next time! You know where I am ;)

It must have been amazing to see the Special in a theatre! Yay. OH The Five(ish) Doctors: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01m3kfy

RUN. Don't walk. It is made of LOVE and sparkly JOY. Peter Davison wrote and produced. LULZ!

I hope Kill Your Darlings makes it to you soon. It's GREAT. I'm endlessly fascinated with it and I thought I was well over The Beat Generation. But I guess I'm not.

That's good news about the Daniel Radcliffe movie. I feel really affectionately toward him, considering we haven't actually met, and I want him to do well and succeed in ambitious roles! I just like him.

He's VERY likable. Have you read this amazing NYT Magazine article on him? He just comes across as such a sincere, ambitious, hard-working and KIND person. He leads an unusual life but unlike many, is self-aware about it. *cheers DanRad*

I've always wanted to watch Classic Who, but I don't think I can. I don't have the concentration in the new cheese-grater world of editing. Stuff kind of has to move. Not like in an action film, but you know what I mean. You could try some of Seven's stuff (with Ace - S25 & 26) - they're still old TV, but they were made 88/89, most of them are really good, and Sylvester and Sophie are both actors who like running about, and the SFX team of the time liked nothing better than blowing stuff up - something like Remembrance of the Daleks, Greatest Show in the Galaxy (though that's a little weird), Battlefield, Ghostlight or Curse of Fenric might do. (It's also worth bearing in mind that S26, possibly all of them is better watched in order, because of Ace's story arc. Remembrance is therefore, for lots of reasons, a pretty good one to try ( ... )

Remembrance of the Daleks. I might give it a go. I really WANT to. It's just my blender-brain won't allow it. LOL a Pertwee six-parter sounds righteous deadly!

YES, I definitely friended you because of the commentfic thing, which was amazing and made me wish I was better at OUTPUT. Thank you for commenting and clueing me on some of the Classic stuff. As I said, I got a wonderful rec list from a con years ago, and hung onto it for ages, but I'm sure it went out with the last cleanse. I can be a bit of a completist, but to watch EVERY DW related thing is sheer madness. Still, it bugs me when I don't "get" a major reference.

Aaannnd since I have worked in video production (and hope to again one day), I'm all about high-quality video and can't bear to watch sub-par things on Netflix, for instance. Ugh, hurdles! So I'm thinking something colorful, with a Doctor I'm inclined to like. I very much like the look of Mr. McGann, but then that's a whole other can of (audio-bound) Doctors (Nooooooo!).

:-) The comment fic thing was very random and amazing. It was only this odd idea I had for my birthday, but it seemed to take off. I do plan to have another one next year. If it's even a third as successful, it would be worth it. (I don't expect it to work as before - it's timing or... who knows what that makes stuff happen ( ... )
