What lies behind my attraction to the sort of fictional man that would be persona non grata in my real life? She details that most common of inner monologues, something to the effect of "is it wrong to fancy Gene Hunt?" Go read!
Many a fangirl loved Rodney McKay, let's face it, even though on screen (for most of seasons 1 and 2 at least), he was kind of creepy to women, an asshole to his staff, a complete narcissist and an arrogant jerk. *swoon*
I've added to my ponderings the notion of "Noble Hero" - who exactly fits that bill? And the "Flawed Protagonist" who may be misguided, capable of growth, or a hero without meaning to be. I'd say Dean Winchester is your quintessential Flawed Protagonist. But then again, am I overlooking his roguish behavior or the times he's kind of an asshole to women because I think he's awesome? Maybe!
