WHAT DO YOU SEE? Be a tourist in your own life."
Why I Wanted to Read It:
punkishgrin recommended it and she has good taste (except when it comes to friends-- har de har har).
How I Liked It: I have been enchanted with glamourbombing ever since I found out what it was. Is glamourbombing a form of guerrilla art? Is guerrilla art a form of glamourbombing? It doesn't matter. The two are clearly related if not one and the same.
The book offers relatively practical instruction (although I'm probably not alone in not wanting to cut up a book-- I'm sure the author would approve of making copies whether by hand or by scanner) and some flat-out revolutionary ideas.
She offers a caveat both in the beginning of the book and after each section of "questionable" legality (meaning "defacing" advertising for example). Otherwise this book would make a wonderful gift for an ambitious teen (perhaps I'm thinking too shades of
Stargirl?) or anyone stuck in an age/period of his/her life of conformity.
Even if you have no intention of ever trying the exercises offered, the book still stands as an escape into a wonderful world of questioning everything and all being interactive.
Notable: The book has firmly one spelling of "guerrilla" featuring only one R. The dictionary, however, defines the correct spelling as having two Rs. Odd?
Examples of people that have taken the guerrilla art approach featured in this book appear frequently
here.
