Waterstone's sent me a email plugging reduced top sellers and one of them is The Carrie Diaries, a Sex and the City prequel, except I have The Vampire Diaries on the brain just now because it is the season finale tomorrow so somehow this has become Caroline and the gang taking a young Carrie down a peg or two in my head. It's very like a girly

"What was it?" said Caroline briskly, helping the new girl to her feet. "Werewolves? Tomb vamps? Something else we haven't seen in Mystic Falls yet?"

"There's a mention of frog demons in this grimoire," said Bonnie helpfully. "We haven't had frog demons yet."

The new girl rubbed her elbow as if she couldn't quite believe Caroline's strength. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said in a strong, slightly nasal voice.

"You look like you've just been chased through the woods by something," said Caroline patiently, scanning the nearby trees with her vampire senses. "What was it?"

"Is that a bloodstain under that... thing?" said Bonnie helpfully, pointing at the floppy cloth flower pin, the size of a large plaid cabbage, that adorned the lapel of the new girl's blazer. Which she was wearing with a tutu. Bonnie stuck a finger in the grimoire to keep the page about the frog-demons and flipped forward to the page about murderous sylphides

I have not seen the finale yet and I am so hoping Caroline makes it out safely.

Me too! I never thought when the series first started that she would end up being one of my favourite characters but I really love what they have done with her.
