In 2004 a footbridge (built in 1888) providing a convenient link and walking route across the Weaver navigation was closed as it was deemed to be no longer safe. It was estimated that there were roughly 1000 crossings per day (Northwich population in 2001 census 19,259). It's a Three And A Half Bridge!
(i.e. like the Severn Bridge, but half the size...)

At least there is no toll on it.

But it is great to be able to go the scenic (if slightly longer) way into town again.

That's quite an attractive bridge- there's a simliar pedestrian birdge in (aptly enough) Bridgenorth :o)

I used to tie up at the boatyard further upstream from the locks and bridge and use it regularly, it was a shame it closed but the new bridge looks fantastic

Coming home from this afternoon's wander about - ended up shopping in Crewe - Got off the bus by the Salt Weaver Hall Museum and using it to get home rather than staying on the bus right into town and then facing a slog up hill. So for me it as already proved its worth again.
