Where to buy:

Almost all of the costumes in the movie were custom-made, so you can't purchase an identical outfit like Alice's/Hatter's/Duchess's/whoever. You'll have to make it or alter it yourself.

+ Alice's shoes are John Fluevog Inge in plum. They're not currently producing them, but are re-releasing the plum color for Fall 2010, due to the ( Read more... )

Jo-Ann fabrics has a beautiful wine colored velvet (expensive but super lush) that in person is a damn near perfect match to Alice's coat. :D

My only concern with the velvet at Joanns is that it's not very stiff (it is, in fact, very soft and flowy), and the coat seems to be pretty stiff... I mean, I guess you could use interfacing, but I dunno. I'm holding out for a stiffer fabric. Shouldn't be too hard to come by.

For something in the right "area" of Alice's dress fabric, try http://www.fabrics-store.com/first.php?goto=big_fabric&menu=f&menu=f&fabric_id=1146

Also you could check out www.denverfabrics.com.

For Alice's dress pattern, you could try Simplicity 2473, the sleeveless one. Ideally you want McCalls vintage pattern 8744, which is a Mod 1960s minidress pattern w/ 6 variations. There's a Simplicity version, which was at one time numbered 5092 that is basically the same dress, with pockets, but NOT princess-seamed, which really effects the drape. McCalls M5799 is also darted, not p-seamed.

If you're at all good at altering patterns, Butterick Costume B4827 is an almost perfect princess seamed gown. Leave off the sleeves, shorten the hem to just above the knees, replace lacing in the back w/ a zipper.

Actually, McCalls M8107 is darned good.. hm...you'd have to narrow the pieces on the hem, so there's less drape...

Figured this might be of interest here... I was just at Target earlier, and mine had berry colored tights on clearance, for about $4.50. I haven't tried them out yet, but they look nice enough, and cheaper than any I've seen online.

the easiest way to make Alices coat is to slightly modify a pirates Jacket.
