You know the colloquial expression of distance "aways away"?

I always just write "a good ways away," because that's just how I say it, even if I don't understand grammatically how it works. You could probably get away with it like that if it's part of your character's colloquial speech or POV, since your readers will most likely understand what you mean without frowning because you left out an apostrophe or something :D

Good to know, thanks! It's in my general narration, but it's not exactly a formal piece, so idk why I'm so concerned in the first place. Just curiuos, I guess--what I get for being a huge language geek.

But yeah, in the end, I'm just going with transliteration. Fuck grammar, haha.

I'd probably write it "a good way away," even though that's not how I say it aloud. I feel like the s is something that slips in there for linguistics reasons... like the p that randomly appears in "hamster," you know?
