In which I'm all multicultural and stuff

Hurray, my copy of Christianity for Dummies finally arrived today! I find it really hilarious how excited I am about this. But I'm so sick and tired of being ignorant about such a large part of the world and of misunderstanding-- or sometimes just completely missing-- religious symbols and allusions in literature. I'm going to get educated. I'm ( Read more... )

Huh. So odd to think of someone not knowing of it. o_O It's shoved in my face everyday. (Thanks mom) but I'm happy you're learning. :) I'm actually reading a small book on Buddhism, and I once read up a small portion of Taoism, etc. It's interesting to learn about what people believe in my opinion.

I know, I feel so uninformed! I LOVE learning about other religions and cultures, and I'm really excited to finally learn about such a predominant religion.

And totally off-topic, but: I could stare at your icon forever.

I like studying religion because through their beliefs and values I learn about other people. Living totally different lives from mine. Yet somehow, someway, not QUITE as different as I'd suspected. They're closer to me than it seems at first. People interest me. What they do, and The WHY. Why do they? That's what gets me started. Understanding.

(I'm insatiably curious. Maybe that's why I got frustrated with Catholics. They just went with the flow. Like a dead fish in a stream. I wanted to swim in the stream, not be dragged by it!)

XD thanks. Isn't it neat?

Exactly. WHAT people do because of their religions, cultures, etc. is interesting, but it's usually not as interesting as WHY they do those things. And it's amazing how many different religions and cultures share similar beliefs and customs. It's fascinating!

Curiosity is a good thing! That's one of the reasons I love Judaism-- because you're urged to question and challenge everything. Were you raised Catholic?

Yes, it's awesome!

Haha, you might not believe this, but I bought a book called 'Judaism: A Brief Insight' over the weekend! XD Is this 'Get to know other religions better' month or something? If it isn't, it should be.

And hey, if you need any info on Catholicism, I'd also be happy to answer any questions!

How funny! Oh, there should totally be a month like that. March it is! XD

Thanks! I'll probably take you up on that a little later! And if you've got any questions about Judaism, you know who you can ask!
