Job Hunting

May 25, 2010 12:04

I'm going to be rambling about job hunting for a while as I try to drum up some enthusiasm. I have just re-registered for http://iProfile.org as they seem to have lost my details from years ago. On the plus side their system is very good at parsing my CV and has pretty much identified everything I ( Read more... )

I am not sure why I should bother giving course details of my 20 year old college degree...

Languages: C, Modula 2, Prolog, SmallTalk V

Software Engineering (Analysis and Design), Databases, Graphics, Operating Systems, Data Communications, Simulation, Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, Compilers, Philosophy (Western and Computing)

Does anyone care?

I only list skills I've used in employment. Nowhere on my CV does it say "Pascal" :-)

I have a need for somebody to program in C and some scripting language (perl/php/python *) for low level protocol work - putting together some external interfaces out of a box. I expect the low level to be in C and the higher level to be scripted. Need to start within a couple of weeks.

* There is perl and PHP used so far within the project, I have no objection to others.

I would point you at jon_a_five who is a C specialist (though he may not market himself as such :-)

And yes, he could probably do the PHP with no problem though I don't know if it appears on his CV.

Noted. I also have a need (within a few weeks/months) for a C/Graphics specialist to enhance an existing application. (the existing C is "challenging").

For both of these roles, the need is for writing code for a resource limited setting - plenty of disc space (up to 1Tbyte - all SSD!), but memory and CPU power is having to be carefully managed to get the most out of a limited system.

The OS is Linux needless to say. Working from home is to be expected.

I have so many spell checkers which argue with me about my preferred use of ou that I give up and do whatever it tells me :-(

Always try out your material on a friendly audience (like me) so that you can reuse it with other people :-)
