I am still thinking about episode 1.09 "Fleur de Lis" . My initial reactions were quite muddled but after "sleeping on it" I am ( slightly disappointed )
I LOVE this post. lovelove. Between you and transtempts, my Josef-demon is being well-fed this week. :)
Josef's current occupation is "hedge fund trader", according to the CBS site. (There's quite an interesting little article at Slate about Hollywood's sudden interest in the finance world here.) And in fact, I think orange_crushed and I have talked about how unusual it is for Josef to be working out of California, when most of the hedge fund management is done in New York and Connecticut.
About Josef's taste in art - those wall friezes reminded me of Soviet Bloc propagandist art, or Diego Rivera's Cubist murals. Not gothic so much as...uber macho? His apartment/office is definitely quite an intimidating sort of space. I also loved the painting on his ceiling - don't think we've seen that before. Bombs, planes, a cityscape, and a cloaked woman on a bridge. I'm not sure what it means, but the anachronism of modern jets with that female figure who looks like she's just stepped out of a fairy tale is very interesting. For me, his rooms have a certain style
( ... )
Josef : "all I can tell you I am a romantic".. or "I can't tell you I am a romantic. This is killing me - I can't figure out what he is saying. But the word "romantic" is surely there.
What he says is: "You have to understand. Mick and Coraline's relationship was one of those terrifying, self-destructive freakshows that you spend your whole life searching for, knowing it can only end in one or both of you dead."
Beth: "That's your idea of love?"
Josef: "Well, what can I tell you, I'm a romantic."
Thank you so so much for this!! ** changes the post ** And imagine Josef being a romantic!! His street credit with me went sky-high in this episode. HE IS SO GREAT!

This sounds like Josef! Can I update the post with this info (crediting you, of course :D!)

May be everything is becoming less of a question of geographical location now, globalization and Internet considering. It doesn't matter where you live if you can fly anywhere and contact anyone instantly..??

YESS! This is what I mean by "dark ages". :D It isn't really something one wants to put on their walls. :D But to be fair Mick's paintings are equally scary. The way they were staring accusingly at poor Beth!
I seriously wanted to slap Mick for being such an idiot. I'd like to think he was really being all double-agenty about trying to find out how Coraline was "cured," but I think he turns to libido-led mush around her, and after what she did to Beth... Well, lets just say I'm not very understanding about this.
PS - Please go fill out my holiday card poll. ::nudges::

I think he was to some extent double-agenty. More I think about this more it worries me, actually. It is as if he was playing on Coraline's feelings but at the same time his own feelings were in a mess. So very wrong. Whatever Coraline is (an insane person IMHO) is she hasn't deserved this, no one has. And at the same time he is sort of betraying himself into thinking he is just doing it because of double-agenty things..

It is very un-Christian for me but I am so glad Beth did the stabbing. :D

Thank you so much!!!! ** ogles your gorgeous last year's calendar, just on the wall besides the comp desk ***
I'm thrilled that Beth did the stabbing. She deserved some revenge, and I love that Mick's pretty much being forced to pick sides. Unfortunately, I think Coraline's playing him far more successfully than he's playing her, and he'd better smarten up or he's going to be in biiiig trouble. Because I don't think she's planning a happy ending for him.

And it is not as if Coraline is going to die. I am just so sorry for Beth (she is bound to blame herself) and I am also NOT READY to see Mick being may be angry with her for doing it?

This is interesting! Up to this point I assumed that Coraline just wants Mick back but you made me think.. May be she just wants a revenge? "I'll make you crazy again and I 'll make you betray your friends and loved ones and then I'll throw you away" type? Very scary thought.
.... i thought he was 400 going on 30... but i could be wrong.... i really started paying attention at #4.
I think you are right! EEEE! I have the most awesome friend list!!
and i love your Biblio. *hee*
Josef has the best phrases in the history. THEY MUST BE PUBLISHED. :D And I miss Mick's voiceovers so much. There must be some reason why they switched them to Beth's voiceovers. May be because Mick is in total confusion now..

and yes about publishing Josef's phrases.
i like either Mick or Beth's voice-overs. i thought they used Beth because she was there from the beginning to the end of this episode... dunno.
oh, and this:
Occupation: Something to do with making wagons of money. Unclear.

Beth has a gorgeous voice. :D May be the explanation is just that simple. :D I was thinking all the symbolic things it could mean. :D
