Wednesday of dumbness

I do get an occasional "dumb day" and it is today. May be I overdid jogging yesterday and my body is saying "hang on, dearie! Let's have a rest!"..

The WireBut something very cheerful happened to me today - I have "addicted" one of our guys from work to the excellence that "The Wire" series is.. He watched the first season in one weekend! He ( Read more... )

The meta-reason for Doyle’s departure was Glenn Quinn’s addiction problems - he actually died a few years later - that made it impossible for the show to keep working with him.

This makes much sense - and thank you so much for providing this info as I can proceed now without harbouring any bad feelings. :D

Do you think Alexis Denisof’s accent is bad? I think he’s really good - MUCH better than James Marsters as Spike

I don't think it is particular bad but I can feel that he is not speaking quite in the same way as people speak here. But not in a bad way - I think I will get used to it, he is such a darling!.. Spike's accent is far too bad for words - up to a point I thought that he is just PRETENDING to speak like that and the character is not from around Britain. But I forgive because I like him where in a case of Wesley I had bad harboured feelings in connection with Doyle's demise. I am sorry _ I am too irrational here!

Yay for getting someone addicted to "The Wire" (much the same thing happened with KoT and he watched ( ... )

That's the first time I've ever heard someone say that Spike's accent or James Marsters accent for Spike was bad. I've heard that people from the UK thought James Marsters was British and were surprised to hear him speak with an American accent.

It's very rough London accent. Definitely not northern England. I've heard it sounds a lot like Anthony Stewart Heads real accent and that ASH helped JM out quite a bit with it.

James will be using an English accent in Torchwood so the English must not think his accent sucks too bad. LOL.

what queenofthorns said about Wesley's story. It rocks. Still, I was sad to see Doyle go.

And that was EXACTLY what made shipping Angel/Cordy so easy...I mean, she just absolutely refused to let him be all emo and angsty...one of my favorite things is the emo and angsty guy who's extremely good at killing and the plucky girl who refuses to let him be that way by annoying him out of it. And I just loved how Angel always looked at with a mixture of total annoyance and complete adoration. Have you made it to "Eternity" yet(the ep with the actress)? There's a scene there where Cordy is absolutely brilliant. Angel is just always so...bemused...with Cordy.

Another favorite, Gunn, shows up a bit later in the season. Gordon in Supernatural is like a very twisted version of Gunn gone very wrong(which is why I like Gordon.)

And Angel looked at her as if he is most adorable thing ever! And she was trying to cut brownies with a big demon knife! The whole scene was fabulous beyond words" And in the episode before that ("She", I wasn't so keen on the episode itself) when Angel is imagining himself dancing??? FANTASTIC! This scene makes me want to learn how to make animation icons. I must make an icon from it! And I don't want to say anything against Buffy but it is very interesting to watch how these two very different girls brought totally different things out ( ... )

Yes. See...I love Buffy/Angel THE STORY but not so much Buffy/Angel THE COUPLE. Buffy/Angel was all about the growing up, the angst, the forbidden love, the sacrifice, etc. All that epic "has to end badly" stuff. Cordy/Angel is more about Angel learning to enjoy himself and simply be a person, and Cordy learning to look past...well...Cordy...because she's the only one besides Angel himself who really gets what he is and how dangerous he is ( ... )

I think what was getting me is that their story never had any resolution. I can take so much of angst and long glances but usually under 15 episodes of it. After this I want something to be resolved.

Cordy/Angel is more about Angel learning to enjoy himself and simply be a person, and Cordy learning to look past...well...Cordy...because she's the only one besides Angel himself who really gets what he is and how dangerous he is.

Also Cordy is quite easy to accept things, if you think of it. Not many people from Buffy's gang went past Angel's stunt as a soul-less vampire. They all a ;ittle cautious around him . But Cordy always lets him know how GREAT he really is. (It is a very useful quality in a woman :D)

Angel knew exactly what to do with Buffy because she was the slayer and he got slayers. With Cordy, though, he's ( ... )

I sadly cannot comment anything about the shows you mentioned. I haven't got the occasion to see Angel yet, of course they're not showing it in my country, but if you rec it, I might do a tiny research online :D I love Buffyverse, my first ship ever was Buffy/Angel, and I used to have this major crush on David Boreanaz, so I might enjoy it.

As for SPN, I'm still on season one here. Just seen Something Wicked yesterday, and tonight another episode will be aired.

BUT I can praise your boots! Honey, they're just lovely! Thanks for sharing the piccies, they almost made me feel like I was wearing them, lol.

I am watching both "Buffy" (I am on the season 4) and "Angel (where I am on the season 1) at the moment.. I like "Buffy" very much but more for it's witty dialogue than anything. "Angel" is much more of a show that I usually like (I mean more of a dark and adult story). David Borenaz is great in it!

I've been a Buffy hardcore a while ago, when still in secondary. It ws actually the first show to have me hooked up to the amazing world of shipping and fan fiction. My first FF ever has been a smutty piece about Buffy/Angel, lol, I simply loved that pairing, and David Boreanaz used to be my dream guy for a long while :)

I also liked Willow, Giles and Spike a lot.

So, you'd rec me to watch Angel? Dark and adult sounds very much appealing to me, too.

I hope you didn't make him loose his soul. :D This was one of the saddest moments for me..

I like all three, especially Giles. He is such a gentleman!!!

Seeing that you liked "Buffy" - I think you can enjoy "Angel"!!! It is quite different from "Buffy" but it kept all the best elements from it: it is an ensemble show with a variety of interesting characters and it is very witty!

Someone already piped up with the Doyle story, so I don't need to tell you that. I will add, though, that I read the original character was supposed to be Whistler from "Becoming" (season 2 finale) which is why the character wore the same kind of hat and clothes. I remember being driven a little batty that they kind of cloned the character and stuck a different actor in. By the time I got over my distaste for him, he died. However, giving Cordy the gift was a smart move-and then pulling in Wesley.

Some people hated Wesley towards the end, but he was the only thing that got me through the end of season three/beginning of four. There's a small storyline there that rocked.

I have no comment on your Angel/Cordy shipping until you get further into the series. I might spoil.

Oh, I noticed this too!!!! I was thinking if they will bring Whistler in the show again or not and wondering if they just replaced him with Doyle. And this is why it also took me some time to start LIKING him . He got me completely in the "Bachelor party" episode..
