Wednesday of dumbness

I do get an occasional "dumb day" and it is today. May be I overdid jogging yesterday and my body is saying "hang on, dearie! Let's have a rest!"..

The WireBut something very cheerful happened to me today - I have "addicted" one of our guys from work to the excellence that "The Wire" series is.. He watched the first season in one weekend! He ( Read more... )

And that was EXACTLY what made shipping Angel/Cordy so easy...I mean, she just absolutely refused to let him be all emo and angsty...one of my favorite things is the emo and angsty guy who's extremely good at killing and the plucky girl who refuses to let him be that way by annoying him out of it. And I just loved how Angel always looked at with a mixture of total annoyance and complete adoration.

** nods ** I finished "I got you under my skin" yesterday and if you remember - Cordelia made brownies!! And Angel looked at her as if he is most adorable thing ever! And she was trying to cut brownies with a big demon knife! The whole scene was fabulous beyond words" And in the episode before that ("She", I wasn't so keen on the episode itself) when Angel is imagining himself dancing??? FANTASTIC! This scene makes me want to learn how to make animation icons. I must make an icon from it! And I don't want to say anything against Buffy but it is very interesting to watch how these two very different girls brought totally different things out of Angel.

Another favorite, Gunn, shows up a bit later in the season. Gordon in Supernatural is like a very twisted version of Gunn gone very wrong(which is why I like Gordon.)

He was a scary character but a very complex one!!

Yes. See...I love Buffy/Angel THE STORY but not so much Buffy/Angel THE COUPLE. Buffy/Angel was all about the growing up, the angst, the forbidden love, the sacrifice, etc. All that epic "has to end badly" stuff. Cordy/Angel is more about Angel learning to enjoy himself and simply be a person, and Cordy learning to look past...well...Cordy...because she's the only one besides Angel himself who really gets what he is and how dangerous he is.

Angel knew exactly what to do with Buffy because she was the slayer and he got slayers. With Cordy, though, he's clueless beyond the "keep her alive" part, which makes it cute. It helps a lot, I think, that Angel?Cordy weren't immediately meant to be romantic...they just tossed the 2 characters into the lead roles with the rest of the Buffy cast to hold them back and let them do w hat they would and they just clicked.

I think you'll appreciate Gordon a lot more after meeting Gunn. Their origin stories are very similar, with the main difference being that Gordon didn't have someone to keep him from going down the dark path. I don't think anything could ever convince me that Gordon isn't at least partly based on Gunn, if not completely.

I think what was getting me is that their story never had any resolution. I can take so much of angst and long glances but usually under 15 episodes of it. After this I want something to be resolved.

Also Cordy is quite easy to accept things, if you think of it. Not many people from Buffy's gang went past Angel's stunt as a soul-less vampire. They all a ;ittle cautious around him . But Cordy always lets him know how GREAT he really is. (It is a very useful quality in a woman :D)

And who isn't, with Cordy? The way she handled her poltergeist???

Oh, most def! I know that some of the serious Buffy/Angel shippers don't enjoy Angel so much anyways. Imagine what would have happened if Cordy and Angel got together sooner than later? The same goes for Spike and Buffy.

Exactly. If the main focus is "look, see how bad you want them to be together and they can't be?" it needs to end at some point. It's fine if it's a subplot, or if "will they or wont they" is a point(but not the relationship itself being a focus) but when there's a major plotline about the romance...there needs to be something to wrap it up.

See, the thing about Cordy is that she will be his cheerleader against any and all comers, but the second there's a sign of anything RESEMBLING Angelus, out come the stakes and holy water. She's a ditz, but not an idiot.

Exactly. Cordy is perfectly capable of taking care of herself by virtue of her mouth alone. It's just that cheerleaders who WEREN'T born the slayer sometimes need a knight errant to come to the rescue...

I think what they want(if Buffy and Angel aren't together) is for Buffy to try to move on but never be happy with anyone else, and Angel to be lonely and angsty for all eternity. Honestly, Buffy/Spike(though I think they messed it up in the end) and Angel/Cordy are more my thing than Buffy/Angel...

Even as a subplot these things make me tired. For example, in X-files, I was a big fan of Mulder/Scully UST initially but after few seasons I was more than ready to see something more.

Heeee! I liked the way she was bluffing in "Eterrnity" (and such a great episode all around!). I am actually finding episodes low on Cordy rather boring now. Mainly I can do without flashbacks to Angel's past - I GOT IT ALREADY!!!

I think Eternity is when I started shipping Cordy/Angel, even though I didn't realize it until later. It was just such an awesome scene. Cordy and her spunk are really a large part of what makes Angel good, IMO.
