Electricity is vital in our modern world. I know of nobody, save perhaps homeless people, who don't rely on it for their everyday life. It keeps our cold food cold, and our frozen food frozen. A great many people have electric heating, and rely on electricity to keep them warm in the cold winters. Most people these days cook either with microwave

Electric heat can make a big difference. But more likely is that they misread the meter, in which case next month's bill will be really low.
