Wig Tutorial: Applying a Full wig as a ponytail.

Jun 24, 2009 02:24

O.k in a previous tutorial I showed you how you can style a wig into a highponytail using a "Half wig". This time I am going to show you that you can use a whole wig as well. Lets take a look at some examples of why you have to use a whole wig.

Dawn for example's ponytail is huge. You can tell by the design that extenstions and stubbing alone may not help if you want to obtain the full look of the style.

Akane's super long ponytail is another example ( of which this tutorial is based off of).

O.k lets with these examples you kinda get the idea of what I'm talking about so lets get started.

Supplies:

1. Meduim length wig (with or with out bangs)

2. Long length wig without bangs

3. Curved Needle

4. Weave thread or upholsery thread ( that matches the wigs color)

5. Rubber bands or elastic hairbands ( I used the small ones that are used in braiding)

6. Foam head clamp

7. Foam Head

8. T-pins

9. Wig Comb & Brush ( Anyone will do, but make sure you bet a soft brush for your wig)

O.k first pad your wig head. http://aleathiaburns.livejournal.com/44893.html

Once you are done place it on your wig clamp or in this turotial I'm using my dressfrom stand since the wig is long and it gives me more space. We are going to start off with or base wig. I'm using the wig "M14" in Henna.

This is not a meduim wig, but it can be put into a ponytail. Hey I was surprised too.

Once it is styled into a ponytail I then proceed to put the wig up into a bun by braiding the ponytail. Now when using a hole wig you don't want to stubb your wig at all because it need to anchor to something and give it the thickness you want.

Coil the braid around into a bun and using tiny rubberbands or regular ones put them onto the braid to secure it.

Now you have a have little bun. But your not though here. There's more!!!

O.k now the most important part. Securing the bun to the wig cap. Why you ask. Welll it maintains it's shape, will not move or shift to much, and you can really set the ponytail to it's highest point.
So go ahead and thread you curved needle.

Remove you wig and place the needle under the cap where the bun is and start sewing into the bun. What you want to do is sew the bun into the cap.

Here is a more detailed image of how I sewed the bun to the cap.

Here is another image of me sewing at the bottom of the bun as I sew into the cap.

Also I sewed at the top of it as well to really make sure it is sewed down and in it's highest point.

O.k now your bun is set and in place. Now on to the fun part attaching the full wig.

This is a "Cher" wig in henna. I personaly like this wig because it makes an excellent ponytail and it is not to heavy on your head. You can use and "Enchantment or a "Godiva" if you really want a longer effect. However the "Cher" is a great substitute if you don't want yout wig to be heavy and less work at detangling.

Take the wig and place it cap size up. What I am going to do next is prep it into a ponytail.

There are many ways in doing this so I'll show you an easier way that I normaly use. So thread that needle!!!

What you want to do is for a small pocket that will fit the bun. So taking the middle part of the wig sew it together to rom a "8".

Taking the bottom part of the "8" shape tuck it in and sew that to the bottom part of the "8". In this image you can see how I tucked it. *Sigh* I had a better image but it vanished on my computer so bare with me folks. Now the top part will be the pocket for your bun.

Slip it on to your bun and sew edges of the wig into the wig cap. Start from the top and work your way around. You don;t have to sew the bottom because when you tucked in the wig at the bottom part of the "8" it gives the illusion of a regular ponytail.

And there you have it. A full wig as a whole ponytail. Yaay!!! Now I'm off to more projects. Next tutorial "Smothing Styrofoam" be there...or be square..and stuff.
