Today was a wonderful day. All about relaxation and taking time for myself. Especially after making it to 10,000 words last night, yeah
( Read more... )
Nice to have "me time," but too bad it comes due to someone's loss.
I still love Blackmore's Night, too. (And soon, so will our nephew--some of their songs are among the ones I can sing without the music accompaniment to remind me of where I am...)
:)
Ah, stylistics...when it's so similar between unrelated books you almost think it's the same anyway, it annoys me. Though, sometimes being way different each time isn't good, either, because it can just be....I don't know...too extreme?
Yeah, you could pick up a book thinking you'll like it 'cause you liked a different one, but then it's startlingly different, and probably not in a good way if you liked the first style.
I'm glad that you were able to have some time to yourself. :) (We need another Blackmore's Night album!)
The journey to discovering one's style goes ever on... ;) I like experimenting, too. It's fun, though I usually do end up going back to what I'm most comfortable with to try and develop it somehow.
Yeah, there can never be enough Blackmore's Night!
I have to admit I've found myself repeating some of what I think are my most creative lines in several stories, especially when they're buried in a "worthless" story. ;) What do you think you focus most on out of style, character, plot, setting, etc? Characters, I would guess!
I think characters, too, because sometimes I have this idea that if people don't care enough about my characters (at least, one of them), they won't care enough to read on. But then...sometimes it's the other way around! I think I've had "character development" drilled in my head over and over in the past few years, so with this fic I'm working on, I'm trying to focus a little more on plot - practicing coming up with an interesting and suspenseful plot, that is. ^_^ Like I said before, I've been experimenting with a different style, but it's sort of blending in with my old one, so I just thought, "Eh, whatever," and continued on with the story without thinking too deeply about style, especially when the story itself focuses more on plot than on Deep Stuff. :D
Yeah, I often have the best intentions with trying a particular style or doing different POVs in different styles...but by the middle of the story, it's all back to my regular style. Which is a good thing for us--at least we have a prominent style that comes through!
Coming up with an interesting plot is a struggle for me. It just doesn't come easily, so I hope yours is turning out well. Good luck!
