Professors != Gods. Sorry. Doesn't work that way. Even if your theory is busted by your students, you handle it graciously, concede defeat, and learn. She could've handled that far more graciously than she did.

The only thing I can really think of to make sense of that is the fact that women with naturally smaller feet in the first place are easier to bind. And the easier they bound, the smaller their feet could get. Or something.
