Watson slowly takes one step after the another, his shoulders heavy and his wounded leg painful. No matter for how many years he has been a doctor and a soldier, he will never grow used to such urgents calls in the middle of the night.
At least it was a happy night and Watson remembers fondly the look of wonder on the father's face as he hold his newborn for the first time.

That still does not change the fact that he is so tired.

He covers a yawn with his hand as he reaches the first floor and intends to go further up to his bedroom, when he notices the slight flicker of a light beneath the door to their living room.
Surprised, knowing for sure that he blew out the candle when he left, he enters the room only to smile fondly upon the sight.

Holmes sits in his chair, chin lowered to his chest and sleeps deeply, still wearing his dressing gown.
Watson chuckles lightly, blows out the single candle that Holmes had left for him, before sitting down in his own chair.

While midnight summons for a doctor might be stressful, seeing his patients happy is one great comfort.
The other comfort is returning home to someone waiting for you.
