Mr. Mycroft Holmes was not appreciative of being roused from his slumber a full three and one-half minutes prior to his customary seven o'clock a.m.

Author's Note: The amnesty round started and with it starts a new arc for my bigger story! All amnesty prompts (plus July 31) are connected to one part which belongs to my overall July story. The new arc even starts with this prompt.
Thus this takes place after Call my Name.

Mr. Mycroft Holmes was not appreciative of being roused from his slumber a full three and one-half minutes prior to his customary seven o'clock a.m.

Everyone knows this and there is only one person alive on this planet who does not care.

Thus Mycroft is not surprised to see his younger brother as he opens the door. “You do this intentionally,” he accuses and Sherlock blinks. “Do what?”

He enters the flat without invitation and Mycroft swallows a curse. He did learn manners after all.

“I am glad to know that the doctor is feeling better,” Mycroft says and falls into his chair in front of the fireplace. His brother stops his pacing to arch an eyebrow at him.

“You refused to leave your flat since you got him back,” Mycroft explains. “And the doctor was too sick and tired to complain. You are still feeling guilty and worried, so the only way for you to leave the flat now would be that he kicked you out and he would only be able to do so if he feels better.”

Sherlock frowns, but says nothing and starts to pace in front of the fireplace again. Mycroft leans his head to the side, studying him.

“Sherlock?”

What is wrong? What are you thinking about? What are you planning?
Are you alright?

And so many more questions are hidden in this single question, but the brothers were always able to understand each other with fewer words.

Sherlock sighs and drops into a chair opposite from Mycroft. “All that does not matter at the moment. Right now I need your help.”

“What for?” Mycroft asks curiously and Sherlock growls a bit. “I need your country house. I want to get Watson out of London for a while.”

Mycroft blinks bemused, not awaiting such a request.

“The man who kidnapped Watson is still out there and I fear he will try it again if we remain in London,” Sherlock explains slowly. “Not only that, but as long as I stay in London I will be confronted with case after case, even though I told Lestrade that I am not going to help him in the time being.

Watson is not yet well enough to help me on those cases and I do not wish to leave him alone. And to be truthful - we just need a vacation. I think it best if we spend the holidays away from London.”

“And what does the Doctor say to this?”

“Nothing, but I can see it in his eyes. He is tired, brother and no sleep can cure him. He is just too stubborn to say something.”

Mycroft considers his brother for a while and notices that not only Watson is tired. The last weeks were horrible for both of them.

Maybe a vacation will really help.

“Alright, I will call ahead and have the house ready for you. I will take care of anything as long as you are away.”

“Thank you, brother mine,” Sherlock says truthfully and stands up to leave.

Mycroft stops him at the door.

“Sherlock?” Sherlock turns around and looks at him. “Take care - of yourself and the doctor. I will wait for your return.”

Sherlock nods and leaves the flat. Mycroft stays in his seat and can not help but feel a sense of foreboding.
