Title:  Waiting
Author: Alaylith
Rating: G
Characters: Watson
Summary: Watson grows restless while waiting, but he has an idea. (July Prompt 26)
WordCount: 286
Prompt: July 26 ~~~ Red, lantern, grass, fish, needle.
Requirements:  You must use four of the five in your fic.
Author's Note: Reading this I got immediately an idea how to include three of the five words and then I just had to think about how to use one more. In the end I was able to include all five, even though the last two are just small inclusions. The story is nothing fancy, but I got all five words at least. xD This takes place roughly after Only Way to Destroy Me.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: I am going on vacation from 27. - 30. There should be an internet connection in the holiday flat, but I do not know if I am able to get my Schleppi (netbook) to work with it. Hopefully I am going to be able to continue with my daily participation, but if I do not post do not worry. I really, really, really hope that it will work, otherwise I have to use the amnesty period next month. ;(

Wish me luck! (And good weather! XD)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A week after his kidnapping Watson grew restless and started to search the boxes and chests on the attic for any useful items he might find.

He found many different items, ranging from the usual (old books - sadly all quite boring like the gardening book about the different sorts of grass) to exotic (a showcase with the skeleton of a weird fish Watson is unable to identify).

But now after two weeks he finally has an idea what he can do with some of the items. Even though Watson trusts Holmes without any doubts and knows that Holmes will find him - Watson is a soldier and a doctor; he is not a man who resigns easily.

He takes the old broken lantern; the kerosene swishing around inside and with a hammer and a peg Watson is able to break a little hole into the tank.

Watson pulls the needle out of a dirty syringe and then uses the syringe to suck out the kerosene from the old lantern before he fills it into an undamaged lantern.

He stacks the boxes and climbs atop them until he reaches the small window. There he hangs the lantern and with one of his last matches is able to light it.

The lantern glows in a brilliant red hue and Watson smiles a bit. As soon as Holmes finds the house and he sees the lonely light in the attic, he will realize that this is Watson’s prison.

Watson climbs back down and sits down on one of the chests. It may not be much, but the little helpless feeling disappeared and Watson takes heart from the small light.

Holmes will find him. Watson just has to wait for him.
