I've been reading mainly H/G for about 2.5 years, and in the last year I've been hitting 'back' at any sign of don't-mess-with-my-daughter Arthur, any mention of marriage before sex, or any talk of a child with his eyes and her hair so we called it Lily AAHAHSGFDASDFAIRDA. That last problem has been dealt with, fortunately, but overall it's still become a bit of an uphill battle. ^^/
And I think we all know Arthur's thoughts on contraception.

I love that conversation. Yes, I completely agree with you. Arthur isn't aggressive in conversations of that kind, nor would he ever, ever be comfortable with stuff like that!
Ahahaha, I don't understand why people put little things like that in fanfic. Have they even read the books? Do they know where it's set? Do they know that England and English people are not the same as America and Americans?
If they answer NO to the first two and YES to the last, they should be banned from writing ;) The Official Justice System of the HP Fandom, I like it. *snickers*

Thank you! Thank you dearly. That's it. He is, 99% of the time, not aggressive, and he stays that way unless pushed. He would never calculate a conversation like this. Ehhhhh, the whole thing is just to ernest and overly-sincere for me.

1. I think that the rule of thumb with "sir" is to steer clear of using it outside of a prefessional capacity - basically, only use it in situations where it is explicitly OK to use it. So, addressing your senior in the police force = yes; adressing the teacher you can't be bothered to say the name of = yes; addressing the man you have stopped for speeding if you are a (polite) policeman / the person you are serving if you a (good) waiter = yes; addressing your father/uncle/father-in-law like that = no. I would hazard a guess that in the Auror department it's probably acceptable, maybe even expected, particularly from newbies.
Any situations in which it is not expected, it wouldn't be done, basically because it looks sarcastic - from my eyes, I always read these "yes, sir" scenes of Harry/Ron/Draco as if they're taking the piss, and there should be a mock-salute at the end. Also, it is one of the few really glaring Americanisms that makes alarm bells ring in my head in an unpleasant manner. I also always expect ( ... )
