Consider duplicating the platter/plate rack seen here but install it above the buffet or in the kitchen window.

You know that when you make plate racks like that, you have to dust the plates all the time, right?

No more so than any other kind of open storage, really, and less than some, since items are stored on edge.

I'm lazy, I didn't store stuff like that in the open. I still have a few large pieces, just in case, but they're still in the cabinets.

For me, part of the pleasure in collecting pretty dishes is being able to see them. If that means dusting them periodically, so be it. Of all the possible household chores, dusting is a lot less onerous to me than many. Though I confess I don't dust the books as often as I ought.
