Akihiko hopped home for the weekend most weekends, unless Torchwood had something crazy going on that prevented him from doing so. He hadn't been home for a little while, so instead of going straight to his own apartment first, he decided to head to Mitsuru's place

Mitsuru was in the kitchen of her apartment, making tea with excessive care and deliberation to prevent herself from thinking. The year that the rest of the multiverse had taken a shortcut around aside, it had been over a week now since she'd made contact with the community again, and still no word from him. He was just busy, she hoped; but with that trouble that had been going on the last time she'd spoken to him, she found she didn't really believe it. Yukari would be angry with her if she knew she was expecting the worst, so she'd kept it to herself, promising herself that she'd go to Torchwood tomorrow, or the next day, or the next, to confirm it.

Akihiko reached the building where Mitsuru lived and pushed the call button for her apartment. He had no idea that anything strange had occurred, and wasn't expecting anything other than for Mitsuru to be pleased at the surprise visit.

She glanced over towards the door curiously; she wasn't expecting any visitors, and Yukari wasn't due back until later. Could one of her neighbors have lost their key? Setting the tea down, she walked over to the intercom panel and pressed the button. "Hello?"

"Hey, Mitsuru," Akihiko said cheerfully. Then, a little more tentatively, "Is this a good time? I just got home and I thought I'd pop by..."
