I just committed myself to spend $8,000 over this summer for a two-month study abroad trip to Guadalajara. And I don't feel very good about it

I don't know why either -- congrats!!!ch3coohMarch 30 2009, 20:39:09 UTC
**relax!** /whew, reading that stressed me out/ ;-P
ok, $8000 is a /lot/ of money but, yes, you can spin this as useful simply because it has a rigorous selection process. It is almost definitely something to put on an application... of course, how useful it will be will be the result of what you do there.
and, um... the program looks pretty awesome - I am assuming this is the "Medical Spanish program at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara" :D *sweet*
more specifically, what are you going to go do there?
Oh, and, also, positive feedback cycle - use this when applying even to your next opportunity in college. It would probably even be useful for them to simply see that you took advantage of other opportunities you were offered.

Hahaha...not THAT awesome. The is the smaller one - no medicine allowed - where students go and basically do a service-learning stint for two months. Apparently you take classes in the morning and serve in the afternoon, sectors determined by them, but you indicate preferred choices. As far as I can remember there's a few teaching programs (all ages), a care-for-old-people program, a birth control/ pregnancy help program...stuff like that. Of course, how much are we really going to do there, other than file papers and such??
Thanks so much for your words - you made me feel better about doing this thing. You are fantastically awesome.
