Given Mycroft's personality and the amount of stress he's probably been under since university, I can easily understand why he turned to food for comfort. I really like your interpretation of Sherlock's jabs at Mycroft's weight. It's sweet that it's a code only they understand and a way Sherlock can show concern without being obvious about it.
