On Stuff

Apr 08, 2012 23:15

I went digging through my storage unit this morning, looking for items to toss on ebay. Botcon is the end of the month, and too many Major Issues in a row plus the Diamond thing mean I have not nearly enough saved towards it. I'll admit, I went into the year expecting that I'd also have a work bonus to put toward it and yeah, well. No dice. I'm ( Read more... )

Sounds a whole lot like my shop. It's filled to overflowing with pieces of wood that seem to valuable to toss, even though I have no idea what I might ever do with them. Bus-boxes filled with mechanical parts from machines I've disassembled to get the "really valuable parts" for some project. I "know" that I can use some of them, but the problem is eternally "which ones." I did manage to dump a whole bunch a couple months ago, and I keep nibbling around the edges, tossing this or that as I clean up. I've actually found the workbench top, and now it's just about down to stuff from the current projects. The dust level has been significantly reduced too, although there's still way too much of that. The castle jewelry box wiped out a small portion of the "saved wood" but nowhere near enough. Tonight I was looking for something, and "discovered" two long-lost, sort of abandoned projects, complete with the half-assed jig to make parts for one of them. I really need to toss the jig, since it never really worked anyway. Anybody ( ... )

Moving the way I did was a great motivator to trim down my belongings. I'm not saying I became a model of efficiency, but I DID make myself face a lot of facts about what I needed to keep. Sure, I still kept a bunch of my toys/figures, but I dumped a ton of stuff.

As you say, priorities.

this probably won't really help address the primary issue, but if you figure out what you really want to save and keep for the long haul, and don't mind that things aren't totally climate controlled, I do have a large garage loft that I could store totes of stuff for you.

I realize that this may not be much help, but I will happily assist you in organizing, cleaning, or otherwise de-cluttering your place. I moved stuff once before; I can do so again. And before you say something like, "oh, but I couldn't put you out," or, "I can't ask that of you," remember that I am volunteering, and LIKE doing things like this.

Okay, first off, your icon is made of win and pie and I may steal it. >_>

As for your offer- I might, at some point, take you up on it. I am one of those people that not only has a hard time asking for and accepting help, but also tends to get terribly embarrassed by letting people see the fruits of my inaction.

I keep thinking that if I just take a day completely off, I can get XYZ amount of work done. The problem is that since I only ever have one day a week at best completely off, I have to do the small things that I don't do through the week: shopping, bathroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning, etc. Add to that my brain is all "you only have one day off, you should have some fun," and I wind up on the computer. :/

So, I appreciate the offer and I will think about. *hugs!*

First, I made that icon, so feel free to plunder away. :)

I understand feeling embarrassed about that, but I also know how busy you are, and how much stuff you have to get sorted. See, I pay attention, and consider things. Plus, I have this nasty habit of putting myself in the other person's shoes a LOT. :)

Just let me know, and I'm there.

(P.S. I have seen the movie from which your icon's quote came from. OMG, did that movie suck, but hearing that phrase in a movie was defintely win.)
