Ok, so it's been a busy few days:

My brother took me, my sister-in-law, and my niece to see Genesis as a surprise on Sunday. I was taken unawares by how damn good they were. I've never been a massive fan, but I do know most of their songs, and sang along lustily - making up a few words as I went along. I'm one of the bunch who preferred Peter ( Read more... )

Oh good, i'm not the only one who goes crazy over staging! *G!* I love a gorgeous stage set up or use of a stage! It just adds so much to a piece.

*snicker* Huzzah for J/W Loveliness. I also have major problems with the wench, btu do admire her for her brain and ballz! :P

Im so going to have to see the movie again! ^_^. Im not complaining!

Oh god, yes! I think it's vital that the staging reflects the performance - in any context; film, theatre, music, whatever. It's like an extra character, and often you find that the set or stage tells you a lot more than any one of the characters might explicitly say. You'd absolutely wee yourself over the set for In Celebration. It's one of the most innovative I've seen for a long time. The sides and roof of the house are all cut away, so you can see the upstairs rooms as well. That way, if a character goes upstairs, you don't lose your connection to them, and you also get a glimpse of how they behave in 'private'. The set of the house was also incredibly cluttered, but in that regimentally tidy way, where every hideous bit of tat is precisely symmetrical with all the others, and the antimacassars are perfectly in line with the sides of the chair and sofa. It looked so believably lived-in, right down to the great detail of the picture of the Queen on the wall, LOL ( ... )

Sounds wonderful! I agree, the set is definitely an extra character, and it's always interesting to see how whoever (be it music, film, theatre etc) uses it, hides behind it, strides through it and so on.

She did seem a bit flighty in DMC. She ws definitely forgetting one of her main assets, so it's nice to see her become so empowered in AWE. LOL!!! that's SO true! she's always in someone's breeches! *snicker!* Very sus. :P

Heehee, yeah, i've organised with a friend to go see it on friday. LOL! Don't worry, whenever you get to it is fine. I realise that sometimes it's just not possible to write a PotC fic! (grrrr, my own muses are being SERIOUSLY annoying for the next chapter of Setting the Course. *glares at them*) Like you i hope seeing it again is going to kinda whip them into submission... or maybe i should just watch that scene in DMC :P:D.

I'll see what i can remember from the dialogue. (Might take a pen and pad of paper and jot things down this time :P. Who, nerd? Me? pffft!)

See? I'm not the only one who can't just jump in and write J/W without giving consideration to the wife. (Makes you wonder about the soulless demons who can churn out J/E while having one or both of them insulting "the whelp.")

I just can't do it. My brain clams up. I cannot disregard another character that easily. Personally, I think that a lot of writers do it out of sheer laziness. They can't be bothered to write a realistic change to canon, so they disregard believable development in favour of getting down to the shagging asap. I have to admit, I do think that not only J/E writers are guilty of this. I have seen some J/W writers do it, not only recently, but in the past, too. It's all too easy to pull the, 'she jilted Will for Norrington' with NO explanation line after CotBP (if they write it with exposition, then that's a perfect send-off for her). I've also seen her cheating on Will. Fair enough again, but please, give the woman a motive (again, not difficult - she realises Will prefers boys, end of). I've even seen (worst of all) that she cheats on him WITH JACK. And Will gets angry with her, but ends up with Jack himself. I mean, WHAT? Just, NO. I find it pretty implausible that Will would do that, even if it was only a revenge-fuck. That can be a ( ... )

See, I knew you would understand!!! *clings to you and cries* That's exactly what I said to Rebecca when she told me - 'But Julian must SAVE him'. She said, 'I was actually hoping YOU might go and save him'. I was a bit like, um, ew, I don't know if I'd want to go there now... XP
