The gloves are easy- either you can purchase them at an army surplus store, or get a long pair of gloves and just cut the fingers off and hem the edges down.
Her straps are just a harness. Again, army surplus store is your best bet, though you could probably make them if you felt like putting the sewing time into it.
And most any army surplus store sells her clothing-clothes. They're a very common outfit.
I'd actually try asking at metal_gear; they have a few Snake cosplayers there, and his outfit has the same basic makeup as her first one.
I'm actually gonna cosplay her secnod outfit, the jumpsuit. >D Somuchfun.
I would have thought that most army stores would stock a similar type of olive drab uniform - but thatnks for the clarification. It's just going to prove to be a challenge to find some in my size or close enough. o_O
I don't know if fashion over there reflects fashion over here, but if it does you could probably find, in the younger women's or juniors section, some very similar items. Army is very in right now, over here. The jacket especially, maybe less-so the pants. You could also get some green cargo pants, not officially army, but faux is great.
Oh, and on that little thing on her, whaddya call it? The brace? I wore something very similar for my Emcee Cabaret costume. Make sure to sew it to the outfit if you make the brace because if not it'll chaffe like hell.
Well, army-style trousers are (or used to be, until recently) pretty much "in fashion" at the moment - the jacket, not so much. Problem is, most of them just aren't "plain" enough - they usually tend to be decorated (probably to appear more "feminine", in order to cater to the average young woman), or they have too many pockets.
This tends to be the case at most clothes shops, anyway - I'll probably have a little more luck at supermarkets, or cheaper clothes stores.
A friend of mine, aachannoichi cosplayed as the Boss last Otakon...when I couldn't attend. I'm sure she has pics somewhere that can give you a hint of what she did. She bought a jumpsuit with some belts. I think that's how she did it. o.O;;
I wouldn't do the sneaking suit unless you were willing to use duct tape! O_o;;;
See, I'd love to do the sneaking suit, but, as I've previously said, I'm absolutely crap at costume-making. That, and I don't really have the patience. (Plus, trying to find some suitable materials would be a nightmare.....)
Unfortunately, yes - it's even worse if you don't know how to sew. I've sewn up a crappy Asuka Kazama cosplay kimono in two days and didn't get noticed by any of the major online cosplayers nor the con-goers because a) Asuka is still a new character and b) I didn't have enough time to get EVERYTHING Asuka had in her costume, because what I've experienced - when you cosplay - YOU. HAVE. TO. HAVE. EVERY. SINGLE. SOLITARY. ACCESSORY. THE EFFING CHARACTER HAS. NO EXCUSES. NO EXCEPTIONS. <----if you wanna be noticed anyway! ^_^;; Cosplaying can be really biased too, but just ignore the jerks if they say anything snarky. Cosplaying is for everyone with the fan within.
I think I've seen a picture of your Asuka cosplay, and, considering you only did it in two days, it's pretty damn good, in my opinion. ^_^
I don't think I've had anyone say anything snarky about my attempts at cosplay (then again, I've only done it once so far.....), but I know that it does happen to other people and that annoys me no end. Cosplay is supposed to be fun, not elitist. It doesn't have to be exact, in my opinion, just as long as the character is somewhat recognisable. (For example, my Jill Valentine cosplay wasn't exact, but it was close enough - a few people even took pictures of me, so that reassured me that my costume wasn't complete crap, at least.)
I'm just waiting for the snarky comments if or when I decide to cosplay any male characters (I have my eye on a couple of ideas, such as Raphael Sorel from Soul Calibur): "ZOMG but ur a gurl!!" *eye roll* XD

Okay, that's all. Don't know any army terms.
